Challenge Moscow ready for debut this weekend

Hundreds of athletes will enjoy the first edition of CHALLENGEMOSCOW this weekend. With several side-events it will be a well-filled programme and Sunday 18 August is all about the middle distance in which athletes will cover a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike and 21.1km run.

This is the first time in CHALLENGEFAMILY’s history that racing will take place in Russia. For athletes, CHALLENGEMOSCOW will be an unforgettable experience as the course will take them through the city centre and past iconic landmarks such as Red Square, the Kremlin, the Moscow River, the Olympic facility Grebnoy Canal and Gorky Park. “The entire race will take place in the Moscow city centre. This is a unique chance to see our beautiful city while you’re swimming, cycling and running,” said Elena Krivenkova, head of the Organising Committee at CHALLENGEMOSCOW.

Due to COVID-19 and its restrictions, CHALLENGEMOSCOW was previously postponed, so now the Russian capital is ready for a race with hundreds of enthusiastic triathletes. Unfortunately – due to travel restrictions – there will be fewer foreign athletes at the start as planned and there will be no race for pro athletes, but according to the organisation, a wonderful event will nonetheless be enjoyed by all triathletes racing this weekend.

CHALLENGEMOSCOW was announced by CHALLENGEFAMILY in March as the newest race on the calendar. CHALLENGEFAMILY CEO Jort Vlam said at the time, “It is wonderful we can organize a new CHALLENGEFAMILY race in this special city, full of history and beautiful architecture. As an athlete, it is perfect when you can combine racing with seeing the world. A beautiful city like Moscow is definitely a bucket list thing for many people. For us as CHALLENGEFAMILY it’s amazing to expand our portfolio to Russia, going even more international during these crazy times. In addition, it is good to give Russian athletes the opportunity to participate in such an international event in their own country.”
