Challenge Davos returns: the highest race in the Alps

It is the highest race in the Alps and Challenge Davos is guaranteed to be an experience to remember. The surroundings of the swim and run are unprecedentedly beautiful, but especially the bike course will leave an indelible impression on you for sure. Can you conquer the Flüelapass? Challenge Davos takes place only once every two years and this year it is time to rock!

Davos is a very famous place because the World Economic Forum is held here every year and thus the most important world leaders travel to the Alpine town, but of course Davos is also well-known for Challenge Davos. In recent years the race unfortunately did not take place, but on Aug. 25 and 26, 2023, Challenge Davos will return to the calendar.

You start your race in the often cold but crystal clear Davosersee. The Alps loom in the background, and that always makes for more than stunning pictures of the swim. Yet the surrounding mountains perhaps also instill a little fear; after the swim awaits one of the most difficult and brutal bike courses in the world. But not only tough and brutal, because the bike course of Challenge Davos is also memorable and unparalleled.

Unlike a regular Middle Distance, you may not cycle ninety but 54 kilometers, but in that limited number of kilometers you cover a whopping 1,770 altimeters. That’s because you climb the Flüelapass twice. The first time you tackle this 12.8-kilometer climb with an average gradient of 6.4 percent from Davos. Once at the top, you descend, turn around and take the climb from the other side. That means you get to climb almost thirteen kilometers a second time in a row. The top of the climb is at 2383 meters and you will encounter steep sections along the way, with a maximum gradient of no less than 12.8 percent.

Once back in Davos, a beautiful run course around the lake where you swam earlier awaits. Don’t expect an easy task here either: there are a few short but steep climbs in the run course. The views you have the entire lap as you run through the wooded area are of an almost otherworldly level. This is racing like you’ve never done before.
