Challenge St. Pölten introduces 20-meter drafting rule and use of RaceRanger

Like many other Challenge Family races, as of this year – 2024 – Challenge St Pölten is introducing the 20-meter drafting rule that has been very enthusiastically received among athletes worldwide. By simultaneously using RaceRanger, the aim is to make the race even more fair.

20-meter drafting rule

“Together with Challenge Family and the Austrian Triathlon Federation, we have decided to introduce a 20-meter drafting rule on the bike course for all athletes at Challenge St. Pölten 2024. This is in line with international standards. We aim to guarantee a fair race for all athletes – regardless of whether it is a professional race, national championship or standard competition.

“With our one-lap bike course, we can establish such a change and would like to use this chance for a fair race. The 20m rule will also be explained at the race briefing, but please try to get used to how far 20m is during training.”

RaceRanger in St. Pölten

“A fair race is one of our main goals. For that reason, we decided to implement RaceRanger during the pro-race in addition to the 20m drafting rule. Have you already heard of RaceRanger? It is a revolutionary triathlon start-up providing an electronic drafting detection solution to the sport for referees and triathletes.”

Ladies First

Once again this year, the professional ladies will start first at Challenge St Pölten. “The gun goes off 20 minutes before the professional men. This not only offers the ladies better TV coverage and attention but also leads to an exciting battle: men or women: who will reach the Sportzentrum Niederösterreich first after cycling?”
