Challenge Family Arrives in Italy’s South with Challenge Egnazia Tri

Challenge Family today confirmed its third race in Italy with the announcement of Challenge Egnazia Tri on 21 October 2023. Challenge Family’s new triathlon destination, hosted in Savelletri di Fasano in Puglia, a beautiful Apulian village on the Adriatic Coast, is known for its picturesque harbour and the Egnatia Archaeological Park. This is not the first time the area has hosted triathlon events, but this year the race goes beyond the borders becoming international, to introduce more triathletes to the unique beauty of the Puglia region, challenging themselves and their limits.

“We can’t wait for more athletes to discover this stunning destination and race through the olive groves and vineyards and even along ancient Roman roads,” said Jort Vlam, CEO of Challenge Family. “There is so much history, culture and beauty in this area and the local team are well experienced in putting on excellent events. We’re very much looking forward to working with them, and the local Savelletri community to making this a bucket list event to close out the European season.”

Giulio Molinari, three times European triathlon champion and four times Italian triathlon champion said he was very much looking forward to the race. “I am really excited about the first edition of the Challenge Egnazia Tri. I am fond of this place and happy to participate in such an important and internationally recognised competition that will allow even more triathlon enthusiasts to discover the beautiful routes of Puglia and the enchanting Savelletri di Fasano. I look forward to seeing you on 21 October!”

The 113km course encompasses the best of the region – the crystal clear sea, iconic Italian countryside and areas rich in culture and history such as the ancient Roman city at the archaeological site of Egnazia. The point-to-point 1.9km swim takes place in the Adriatic Sea off the Savelletri coast followed by a two-lap 90km of scenic cycling from the coast into the hinterland with its characteristic trulli. The three-lap 21km run goes from the coast, through the countryside of the immediate hinterland before finishing by the ocean at Cala Masciola, Borgo Egnazia’s private beach.

The inaugural Challenge Egnazia Tri will take place on 21 October 2023. For further information and registrations, visit www.challenge-egnaziatri.com.
