Strong pro field promises exciting inaugural CHALLENGECANCUN

With an amazing strong pro field at the start, on Sunday 28 April CHALLENGECANCUN is about to make a ‘grand entrée’ on the international triathlon calendar. Next to the twenty top class pro athletes, hundreds of Age Groupers will take the challenge in the tropical surroundings of the Mexican hotspot Cancun and swim 1.9 km, bike 90km and run 21.1km.

Cancun is ranked top six of the best tourist destinations in the world as it’s surrounded by the beautiful turquois Caribbean Sea and white sand beaches. On this scenic location CHALLENGECANCUN will start with a very fast swim in the sparkling blue waters. After the swim the super flat bike course will speed over the hotel zone Kukulkán Blvd. in 3 laps of 30K. The run course is situated in Cancun’s downtown, right on Avenue Bonampak.

The women’s race will be a very attractive one with some world famous athletes racing each other. Probably most of the eyes will be focussed on Mirinda Carfrae and Ellie Salthouse, both Australian pros. Especially Salthouse is known as an expert on the Middle Distance and looks like one of the best contenders for the win. Still, Salthouse has to go all in, if she wants to be the first to cross the finish line, because there will be some serious competition to watch for. Like Amalia Sanchez from Mexico, who has the home advantage, and the Flying Dutchwoman Yvonne van Vlerken, who is the winner of the 2018 CHALLENGEFAMILY World Bonus as one of the fastest triathletes in the world. For Van Vlerken it is her first race of 2019. After a long winter period focussing on giving her body rest, this will be the first serious test for her.

Just like the women’s race, also the men’s race will guarantee some serious spectacle to look forward to. Athletes as Cody Beals (CAN), Andy Potts (USA), Ben Hoffmann (USA) and Taylor Reid (CAN) are all contenders with impressive achievements that give their best to claim the victory. From Mexico both Alan Carrillo and Arturo Garza will be looking for a place in the top 5 of the inaugural CHALLENGECANCUN. Anything is possible with this pro field and it will definitely going to be one of the most exciting races of this season.

After the race, there will be more than enough opportunities to relax and enjoy thanks to all the first class accommodations and services at Cancun. The race will start this Sunday at 6.30 am local time.
