2021 sees the return of the CHALLENGEFAMILY Race Awards which were established in 2019 to reward the race organisers, volunteers and all the people who put on memorable CHALLENGEFAMILY races around the globe each year.
This year has been one of the most testing in the history of the global triathlon series with many races forced to cancel due to COVID restrictions in their countries. Those who were able to put on their races often had to do so with reduced numbers and increased logistics to ensure a safe race for the athletes and the local community.
“We are looking forward to celebrating all our races who without exception have worked hard to give the athletes the opportunity to race. Despite less than favourable restrictions, they all delivered an excellent result for the triathlon community,” said CHALLENGEFAMILY CEO, Jort Vlam. “We also particularly want to acknowledge those races who are unable to be part of the 2021 Awards as, through no fault of their own, it just was not possible for them to deliver a race in these testing times. All will be back in 2022 and we look forward to celebrating with the athletes on their finish lines. These races are: Challenge Lisboa, Challenge Cape Town, Challenge Moscow, Challenge Vansbro, Challenge Vietnam, Challenge Malaysia, Challenge Bled, Challenge Geraardsbergen and Challenge Madrid plus Challenge Korea which took place virtually.”
Athlete voice is very important to CHALLENGEFAMILY and nominations for each category were decided on the strength of athlete feedback in the post-race surveys that are sent out after each CHALLENGEFAMILY race. The categories are:
- Best Race Venue
- Best Swim Course
- Best Bike Course
- Best Run Course
- Best Fans
- Best Finish Line Party
- Best New Race
- Best After-Race Food
- Most Eco-Friendly Race
- Most Family-Friendly Race
In addition, athletes can also vote for the CHALLENGEFAMILY Race of the Year.
Voting for the CHALLENGEFAMILY Race Awards 2021 starts at 8:00am CEST on Monday 4 October and is open for just one week, closing at 23:59pm CEST on Monday 11 October. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 20 October.
