There is something special about Mallorca that makes everyone who goes there, return. Film stars, athletes, politicians, families, famous entrepreneurs, international artists, all trying to find Paradise. It’s because this island , a natural Eden, is located right in Europe and is just a few hours away by plane. Some think that Mallorca is special for its privileged environment, others for its magnificent climate, some people opt for its rich cultural and leisure offer, others love its awarded gastronomy, there are also some who think its charm is due to the history of their villages… but no one knows for sure what makes Mallorca a place that is never forgotten. We have collected 8 of the reasons why you have to come to Mallorca in October to enjoy the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca:
1. A UNIQUE EVENT
Challenge Peguera-Mallorca celebrates this year its fourth edition and brings a lot of news. The objective is none other than to continue being one of the races better valued by the participants: 91% of the triathletes who participated in the event (2015 and 2016) value the event very satisfactorily*. Some of the aspects most highly valued are the service to the athlete, valued by 85% of the participants as an Excellent, as well as the circuits, the destination and the program of activities that surround the race.
“In the 2016 edition the event reached it’s limit (sold out), with an increase of 57% over the previous year.”
We work throughout the year to provide both the athlete and their companions a global experience that goes beyond a fantastic triathlon race. For this we take care of all the details so that the experience of the triathlete, from its arrival to its return, will be unique. With this premise, an extensive and varied program of activities has been prepared for the previous week in order to ensure that participants and companions, regardless of their age, can enjoy their stay in Mallorca to the fullest.
“In the 2016 edition the 21,3% of the participants were repeaters: they had already participated in previous editions.”
We are really involved in achieving the excellence of the event. Our job is to provide the participants a unique and incredible experience… and we love it!
2. THE COURSES
One of the most satisfying aspects for our participants are the courses (78% say they are very satisfied with them). After the experience of 2014 (first edition of the event) and attending the requests of the participants, we made decisive changes in the run course. In 2016, the three tracks (swim, bike and run) were retouched with the objective of centralizing the services and the experience of the athletes. The result: a high satisfaction from the participants.
Remember, in Challenge Peguera Mallorca you will swim in one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, you will reach with your bike up to 70 K/h in some stretches of the circuit and you will run along the crowded boulevard of Peguera as well as its promenade while the public encourages you.
“In 2016, 96.4% of the participants finished the race obtaining the title of finisher.”
3. MORE THAN 300 DAYS OF SUN
On the island, the turquoise sea is welcoming and the sun nearly always shines. With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, the island of Mallorca offers a privileged climate throughout the year (the average annual temperature is 17.9 °C).
4. A DESTINATION CONNECTED WITH EUROPE
Thanks to its excellent air and sea communications, Mallorca is a destination with multiple connections to the main European capitals. It will be very comfortable to find the way to come with your bike to Mallorca, whether by land or sea. Or maybe you prefer to rent a bike here. In both cases, don’t hesitate to ask us how you can do it.
Once in Peguera, first-class hotels, perfectly adapted to the needs of both the athletes and their companions, awaits you. The Organization of the event work very closely with the hotels in the area to ensure that the service you receive is tailored to your needs.
5. DISCOVER SOME OF THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL CORNERS
We recommend that during your stay on the island you save some day to fall in love with its charms. Because Mallorca has a lot of unique plans! Get ready to enjoy a few days of relaxation on some of the most stunning beaches and coves in the Mediterranean. Perhaps you prefer to enjoy some of the most impressive panoramas in the world from some of the cliffs of the Sierra de Tramuntana, a World Heritage Site of Unesco. Visit the Palma de Mallorca’s old town, full of magical corners, museums and plans for all ages is certainly highly recommended.
“In 2015 ‘The Times’ chose Palma de Mallorca as the best city in the world”- see news
Enjoy a few days in Mallorca is a safe bet. We are convinced that the landscape and cultural wealth will invite you to meet every single inch of this magical island. And don’t forget to ask us our favorite plans, we want you to know the most authentic Mallorca!
6. A GENUINE GASTRONOMY
The Balearic table is a true reflection of Mediterranean cuisine . Products with their own Denomination of Origin such as Sobrasada, Mahon Cheese and the Binissalem-Mallorca wines take their place alongside regional recipes. The tumbet (a vegetable stew of potato, fried peppers and aubergines with tomato sauce), fish and rice dishes or “pa amb oli” (a slice of bread spread with olive oil and tomato) should not be missed. Game, fish, shellfish, fruit and vegetables are examples of the culinary diversity of the island . For dessert try some ensaimada (local pastry) and some of the locally distilled liqueurs.
Visit the cafés and bakeries. The city has over a thousand restaurants where apart from local dishes you can find cuisines from all over the world and creations by internationally renowned chefs.
Finally a tip: if you would like to buy typical local products such as sobrasada, cheese, almonds, pastries… visit the beautiful El Olivar market.
7. AN ISLAND WITH MUCH TO OFFER
Palma is always an interesting place to spend a day shopping, this mediterranean city has the special feature of combining exclusive shopping areas with small traditional establishments, which are perfect to see how trades that are centuries old still continue and to buy typical products.
If you are looking for top brands and want to spoil yourself, Plaza Weyler, Calle Unió, Plaza San Carlos I and Avenida Jaume III are the streets for you. You’ll also find plenty of jewellers with quality Mallorcan pearls as well as decoration shops and art galleries. A more traditional atmosphere can be found in the old city, the Paseo por la Artesania (The Craft Market Promenade), the Plaza Llorenc Bisbal or Plaza Mayor (with its open-air market). Here you can find arts and crafts, hand made leather, glass, iron, wood products. A great chance to see master craftsmen at work on their stalls.
Practicing some sport during your stay is also a fantastic option. Mallorca has a wide range of sports activities: hiking, biking, horseback riding or quad biking trails, as well as other activities such as golf, swimming, diving, sailing, paddle surfing, windsurfing, etc. At the end of the day you should not miss the nightlife of the island, where you will find from world-renowned discos to intimate pubs where you can enjoy live music or Jam Sessions while having a drink.
8. A SOLD OUT-EVENT
In the last edition of Challenge Peguera-Mallorca (October 14, 2017) we runned out of entries during the registration period (we’re so proud of it!) and some days later we had to close the Waiting list due to the great amount of requests for entries, many more than we were able to satisfy.
So, be aware that this could happen in 2018 again. The registration is already open and running good. The entries’ price will be increasing in every next sales period. If you want to be updated every time before price increases, you can subscribe our newsletter and we’ll keep you up to date.
