The wait is nearly over! From Monday 11 April, athletes from all over the world can register for the first edition of Challenge Sanremo via the official event website – www.challenge-sanremo.com<\/a>. In addition, the courses have now been confirmed for both the middle and sprint distance events that will take place during the weekend of triathlon from 23-25 September.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChallenge Sanremo is taking shape,” said <\/span>Daniele Moraglia, President of Riviera Triathlon 1992, head of the organising committee and race director of Challenge Sanremo. “We have outlined the courses of the middle distance race and of the sprint triathlon so, in a few days from the opening of registrations, athletes can start studying the challenging courses\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The courses are as follows:<\/p>\n

Challenge Sanremo Middle Distanc<\/b>e (Sunday 25 September)<\/span><\/p>\n

Swim – <\/b>1.9 km, single lap starting from the Bagni Paradiso beach and exiting the water at Lido Imperatrice.

Bike – <\/b>90 km, single lap. Exiting T1, the athletes will ride along the Cycle and Pedestrian Path of the \u00a8Coastal Park\u00a8 of Ponente Ligure, heading east, up to Riva Ligure, before transiting onto the Aurelia. A few hundred metres in the town of Santo Stefano al Mare separate the triathletes from the first climb: turn left and climb towards Terzorio, Pompeiana and Castellaro. The slopes are not steep making this first ascent easy to pedal: only in the last part, 10% is reached. Afterward, they will descend towards Taggia, before starting to gain altitude again. A slight slope follows the course of the Argentina torrent, crossing the towns of Taggia, Badalucco and Montalto Ligure, where the turning point is located. Go down again pointing towards the sea until the right turn from which begins a long climb of 17 km that leads to the Ghimbegna Pass (1030 m altitude), after having crossed Argallo, Zerni and Vignai. The climb, which reaches 1,500 metres, is over: now it’s a fast descent towards sea level from Bajardo, Ceriana and Poggio di Sanremo, facing the famous descent of the Classicissima Milano-Sanremo in the final kilometres.

Run –\u00a0 <\/b>21 km, 3 laps of 7 km. The run part is flat and flowing, which will take place in the section of the cycle \/ pedestrian path between Sanremo and Ospedaletti which involves crossing the Capo Nero tunnel and offers a wonderful sea view.

 <\/p>\n

Challenge Sanremo Course – Sprint Distance<\/b> (Saturday 24 September)<\/span><\/p>\n

Swim –<\/b>\u00a00.75 km, single lap counterclockwise starting from the Bagni Paradiso beach and exiting the water at Lido Imperatrice.

Bike –<\/b> 20 km, single lap. The first part of the course is on the cycle \/ pedestrian path up to the start of Bussana. Here the first ascent of the route that ends at an altitude of 70 meters inside the town, at the top of via Circonvallazione. The steep descent brings the triathletes back to the Aurelia: from here they will tackle the most famous 10 km of world cycling: the famous Poggio climb. The climb is very easy to pedal (4% the average gradient), follow by the technical and fast descent that leads to Sanremo and T2.

Run –<\/b>\u00a05 km, single lap. Fast, completely flat route, which develops entirely on the cycle-pedestrian path of the \u201cCoastal Park\u201d of Ponente Ligure.
