September) Davos will host the <em><strong>CHALLENGE<\/strong>DAVOS<\/em> Festival for the<br \/>\nthird consecutive year. During the course of three days, athletes will have the possibility<br \/>\nto participate in various endurance events. The highlight of the multi-sport event marks<br \/>\nthe Saturday, where three different triathlon formats cater to all levels of athletes,<br \/>\nputting the Flu\u0308ela into focus. The main event is the middle-distance triathlon, where in<br \/>\nthe pro-section last years runner-up Pieter Heemeryck (BEL) will compete against Ruedi<br \/>\nWild (SUI), Horst Reichel und Ruben Zepuntke (both GER). On the womens\u2019 side Radka<br \/>\nKahlefeldt (CZE), Emma Pallant (GBR) und Nina Derron (SUI) will be meeting at the start<br \/>\nline. Additionally to the triathlon competitions, a <strong>NightRun<\/strong> and the non-competitive bike<br \/>\nride <strong>Ride the Alps<\/strong> over the Flu\u0308ela will complete the festival weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The program of the <em><strong>CHALLENGE<\/strong>DAVOS<\/em> Festival has been growing even more this year. Starting<br \/>\non Friday evening, a <strong>NightRun<\/strong> over 5,4 km will take place in the Kurpark. The Triathlon<br \/>\nevents will also include a new, shorter format, especially designed for beginners. Sunday<br \/>\nmarks the finish of this weekend with the <strong>Ride the Alps<\/strong> series event over the Flu\u0308ela, which is<br \/>\nclosed for motor-traffic on that day. There will be no timekeeping for the Ride the Alps event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Triathlon on Saturday<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The highlight of the weekend is the <em><strong>CHALLENGE<\/strong>DAVOS<\/em> Middle Distance Race on Saturday.<br \/>\nA Triathlon covering 1,9 km of swimming , 55,4 km of cycling and finishing with a half<br \/>\nmarathon. The start will be at 10:45 for the professionals, followed by the age groupers at<br \/>\n11:05. The swim will take place in lake Davos. The challenge awaits the athletes on the bike<br \/>\nbetween Davos and Susch (Engadin). 1770 meters of elevation have to be conquered by<br \/>\nclimbing the Flu\u0308ela pass from both sides, peaking at 2383 m. The run course will then lead<br \/>\nthe athletes along the new route through the Matta Forest and the city of Davos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who will be the new Champion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Defending champion of 2017 and 2018, Lena Berlinger unfortunately had to cancel her start<br \/>\ndue to injury. Co-organiser and winner of 2018, Sven Riederer, has ended his professional<br \/>\ncareer. Therefore, on Saturday, two new champions will be crowned. The men\u2019s favorite is<br \/>\nPieter Heemeryck, who won 2nd place in 2018 and 2017. But also local Ruedi Wild is very<br \/>\nwell acquainted with the climbs and descents of the Flu\u0308ela and has proven his form just<br \/>\nrecently in the Long Distance race in Hamburg, where he came second.<br \/>\nRoutinier Horst Reichel andNewcomer Ruben Zepuntke (both from Germany)<br \/>\nare also strong contenders for the podium.<\/p>\n<p>In the womens field, Radka Kahlefeldt from Czech Republic is frontrunner towards the 1st place. She has already won <em><strong>CHALLENGE<\/strong>KAISERWINKL-WALCHSEE<\/em> and <em><strong>CHALLENGE<\/strong>PRAGUE<\/em> this year. Yet, with Emma Pallant from Great Britain, Swiss athlete Nina Derron (2nd place at Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz) and the German Natscha Schmid, Kahlefeldt encounters strong competition. Last but not least, Lucy Hall will be starting, who is a specialist at short distances, winning already European and World Cups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Side events for everyone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parallel to the <strong>Middle Distance Triathlon<\/strong>, an <strong>Olympic Distance<\/strong> will take place over a 1,5km<br \/>\nswim, 28km bike and 10km run, as well as an Experience sprint distance over 1,5km swim,<br \/>\n17km bike and 5km run. For both races, the competitors will tackle the Flu\u0308ela only from the<br \/>\nDavos side. Athletes in the Olympic Distance will not only compete for the win, but also for<br \/>\nthe last points in the overall ranking for the <strong>TRI Circuit series<\/strong> \u2013 a Swiss event series for<br \/>\nnonprofessional triathletes. But a sports festival would not be complete without other, attractive<br \/>\nside events.
