28th<\/sup>July 2017 \u2013 The second edition of FORD\u00a0CHALLENGEPRAGUE<\/em>(1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, 21.1 km run) took place in the center of Prague on Saturday. The unique event which belongs to the prestigious\u00a0CHALLENGEFAMILY<\/em>series was won by Javier G\u00f3mez and Katrien Verstuyft. Best Czech triathletes Luk\u00e1\u0161 Ko\u010da\u0159 and Simona K\u0159iv\u00e1nkov\u00e1 finished in top 10.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was a strong competition field at the start of the second edition of FORD\u00a0CHALLENGE<\/em><\/strong>PRAGUE<\/em>\u2013 last year\u2019s winner Belgian\u00a0Pieter Heemeryck<\/strong>, one of the biggest triathlon stars\u00a0Javier G\u00f3mez<\/strong>(ESP) or latest long distance World Champion\u00a0Pablo Dapena<\/strong>(ESP). A lot of athletes commended the surroundings of Czech capital city, enjoyed the course and great atmosphere around.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s category was dominated by five-time World Champion and silver Olympic medalist\u00a0Javier G\u00f3mez<\/strong>. \u201cThe race wasn\u2019t easy at all. The guys were very strong especially on the bike and it was hard also because of the heat. However, I found my strength and fans pushed me to the finish line. I really enjoyed the competition and the city, it was amazing experience<\/em>,\u201d said G\u00f3mez who was followed by his compatriot\u00a0Pablo Dapena<\/strong>. Last year\u2019s winner\u00a0Pieter Heemeryck<\/strong>finished on the third place.<\/p>\n

Katrien Verstuyft\u00a0<\/strong>from Belgium took gold in women\u2019s event. \u201cIt is the first time I won the Challenge event. It was really hard in the last running lap, I got bad stitches and I saw the others behind, but I am happy I could handle it. There is no better feeling than breaking the finish tape first<\/em>,\u201d said Verstuyft. Silver was taken by\u00a0Kirsty Jahn<\/strong>(CAN) and\u00a0Laura Siddall<\/strong>(GBR) finished third.<\/p>\n

The best Czech triathletes were\u00a0Luk\u00e1\u0161 Ko\u010da\u0159<\/strong>(6th<\/sup>place) and\u00a0Simona K\u0159iv\u00e1nkov\u00e1<\/strong>(7th<\/sup>place).\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIf it weren\u2019t cloudy and if it didn\u2019t rain a bit in the end, I guess I wouldn\u2019t finish the race. Sixth place is real success in this competition and time under four hours is amazing. To compete with these guys was truly special and I really enjoyed the race<\/em>,\u201d said Ko\u010da\u0159.
\n\u201cOf course I am happy that I was the best Czech women. Honestly I am surprised that I finished on the 7th<\/sup>place. Last year I was fourth but today there was much stronger field<\/em>,\u201d said K\u0159iv\u00e1nkov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

The shorter race called TRY-ATHLON (0.38 km swimming, 18 km cycling and 4.2 km run) was attended by amateurs and local celebrities such as decathlete Roman \u0160ebrle or cardiologist Jan Pirk. In RELAYS category, Olympic distance swimmer Jana Pechanov\u00e1 and six-time Paralympic champion in cycling Ji\u0159\u00ed Je\u017eek competed.<\/p>\n

The event was won by Belgian\u00a0Sander Heemeryck<\/strong>and German\u00a0Claudia Mai<\/strong>. The best Czech triathletes\u00a0Tereza Skuhrov\u00e1<\/strong>took bronze medal,\u00a0Filip Ry\u0161av\u00fd<\/strong>finished seventh.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are a sporting family. My brother Pieter is the last year\u2019s champion of this event in middle category. It was a beautiful race with lot of people around. Prague is really nice city,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>said the overall winner of TRY-ATHLON category Sander Heemeryck.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t feel great about swimming because lot of people were getting out from water just in front of me. Compared to the last year, there was a change in swimming part and I wasn\u2019t used to it. However, running went good and I am satisfied with the result<\/em>,\u201d said Tereza Skuhrov\u00e1, third woman of the TRY-ATHLON race.<\/p>\n

Eminent Czech cardiologist\u00a0Jan Pirk<\/strong>won his category over 70 years-old and finished on 39th<\/sup>place overall in category TRY-ATHLON. He attended the category RELAYS as well together with opera singer\u00a0Ji\u0159\u00ed Langmajer<\/strong>and\u00a0Josef Les<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIt was a really nice race. I have participated in all four ed<\/em>itions of Prague triathlon. Especially for us, hobbies, triathlon is very effective as it combines three different disciplines<\/em>,\u201d said Pirk.<\/p>\n

The race was commended also by Olympic champion in decathlon\u00a0Roman \u0160ebrle<\/strong>who took 9th<\/sup>place in his category and 45th<\/sup>place overall. \u201cSwimming is my slowest discipline. Compared to the last year, I felt better on bike but I didn\u2019t know how many laps there was, so I hope I counted them right. I enjoyed running as well,\u201d<\/em>summarized \u0160ebrle.<\/p>\n

The RELAYS category was dominated by Czech teams \u2013 Ford One, CSG Tri Team and Saucony Superheroes.<\/p>\n
