Steger and Bilham Victorious in Mogan Gran Canaria

Young Austrian Thomas Steger shone today at the first edition of Challenge Mogan Gran Canaria in an exciting and tough race with Manuel Küng who Steger overcame in the run. The Austrian triathlete clocked 4 hours, 14 minutes and 25 seconds, followed by the Swiss athlete Küng two minutes back and Domenico Passuello in almost three and a half minutes. The first Spanish was Uxío Abuín in the sixth.
Steger gets his first victory on the international circuit gin a middle distance race (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21 km run). This 24 year old won in a very technical race between Anfi del Mar and Playa Mogan, and the high heat prevailing in the Saturday morning at the headquarters of Amadores.
In women, a crushing victory went to Emma Bilham, with a time of 4:42:30 followed by Gurutze Frades, nearly eight minutes, and Sarah Loehr, more than 10 minutes.
Challenge Mogan Gran Canaria started at eight morning on the beach of Amadores with 300 participants representing 21 nationalities. The bike passed between Anfi del Mar and Playa Mogan with three laps. The run was between Amadores and Puerto Rico also with three laps. Thomas Steger said he was very happy to win his first race on the international circuit. About the race he said: “I have suffered a lot on the bike and run today”.
The premiere of the Challenge Family in Mogan was held in the presence of the mayor of the grancanaria town Onalia Well, the vice president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria Angel Victor Torres and director of the Hotel Gloria Palace José María Mañaricúa, sponsors of this event with the collaboration of the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation. Challenge Mogan Gran Canaria has been recognized as one of the great events of the project ‘Gran Canaria Island European Sport’.
