Salvador is the next destination of the international triathlon series Challenge Family

One of the greatest triathlon competitions series in the world, the Challenge Family, is now approaching Salavador, the capital of Bahia. The new race, and its usual side events for the entire family, will take place in the weekend of the 20th and 21st of october, 2018, at the Itapua area. The event, which is totally supported by the local government by means of the turism company of Salvador (Saultur), the Municipal Secretary of Sports and Leisure (Semtel), and the Triathlon Federation of Bahia (FebaTri), reinforces the sport calendar of the city, and makes Salvador an important destination of sports turism in Brazil.

In Brazil, Challenge Family has been organizing events for three years, with its triathlon series and street run races. The organizations expects to receive a number of a thousand athletes, from at least 10 different countries such as Italy, EUA, Germany and Argentina.

The half distance triathlon is the main event, but as in the other races of Challenge Family in Brazil there are other side events happening in the four days of Challenge Salvador that are dedicated for women, children and for triathlete newbies.

ACM Neto, the mayor of Salvador, believes that the attraction of sports events, as big as Challenge Family events, is essential for the formation of Salvador as a sport events city. “We have a great potential of consumers, when the subject is sports. We have a great landscape for the population to practice many diferente sports, and Challenge Family arrives in a great moment”. The president of Saltur, Isaac Edington says that “Receiving this event is part of our strategy to enhance our position in terms of a importante destination of sports in the country”.

For Walter Kraus, president of FeBATri, this is a great achievement and a dream come true for hundreds of local athletes. “Challenge Family is a true festival that overcomes the conceptions of common competitions. The event is a true contemplation to the sport and specially because it envolves activities for the entire Family to be part”.

According to the Municipal Secretary of Sports and Leisure (Semtel), Geraldo Júnior, associating sport events with the attraction of tourism and the economic and social development of the city is a great objective. “We know that Salvador is a one of a kind city in terms of the natural resources and the cultural aspect, and we have a great ability to carry out major sports competitions with the potential to further increase the city’s tourist movement”.

According to the coordinator of Challenge Brasil, Carlos Fernando de Menzes, the event arrives in Salvador to show that sport and carnival can be part of one family. “Who can stand the carnival marathon Salvador has, sure is capable to run a triathlon” says Fernando. The Challenge Family has more than forty events around the world. In Brazil, there are four: Cerrado (Brasília – Abril), Florianópolis (Jurerê Internacional – 2/12), Itaipu (Foz do Iguaçu 1/9) and the newest one of them, in Salvador (October).

The organization and planning for the event has already begun and promises to please the public that comes to participate in the competition. “Salvador has all the conditions to receive the event with all the competence and organization that demands a competition like this. We have expertise in achievements of this magnitude and we are recognized worldwide for this, like the Carnival, the World Cup, among others. I’m sure it will be one of the best organized Challenges Family has in the World, “says Transalvador superintendent Fabrizzio Muller.
