CHALLENGE FAMILY ARRIVES IN SALVADOR: THE CAPITAL OF THE BRAZILIAN CARNIVAL

Challenge Salvador middle distance race (1.9k / 90k / 21k) will take place in the Brazilian carnival capital, also known as the land of magic, in October this year. The swimming will be at the Piatã beach, where the event will also be located. Piatã beach is one of the most popular addresses of the city, famous for 35 kilometers of waterfront, surrounded by coconut trees, crystal clear water and mild temperatures.

The cycling will leave Piatã towards Itapuã beach – inspiration for the song “Afternoon in Itapuã” composed by the Brazilians Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes, where triathletes will bike along the seafront. The run will take the athletes from Piatã towards the district of Patamares, in a landscape that encounters both river and sea.

The city of Salvador has tremendous experience in organizing and planning major events, above all the two-week carnival that takes place every February, and attracts revelers from all over the world to “seek the sounds of the electric trio”. These trucks are transformed into traveling stages that spread the sound of axé music, the world’s most frenetic rhythm. “We have expertise in accomplishments of this magnitude and are recognized worldwide for this. Our events include Carnival and the World Cup, among many others. I’m sure it will be one of the best organized Challenges in the world” says Transalvador superintendent Fabrizzio Muller.

In addition, Salvador is a fascinating city where in the first capital of Brazil there are more than 500 years of history, with famous personalities such as Jorge Amado, an icon of Brazilian literature. The metropolis is also well known for it’s architecture and cuisine. With great African influence, the city is a hub of attractions and activities for all tastes and ages. Owner of the biggest carnival on the planet, Salvador brings an annual calendar of events marked by lots of excitement and is a proud winner of the City Music label granted by Unesco. According to Mayor ACM Neto, the attraction of triathlon events and in particular the magnitude of Challenge Salvador is essential for the strengthening of Salvador as a reference to the achievements of major competitions. “We have great consumer potential when it comes to sports. We have an environment conducive to the practice of various modalities, ranging from street sports, nautical and even the most radical. The event comes at a great time and will bring great results for Salvador” says the mayor.
