CHALLENGE
WALCHSEE-KAISERWINKL
Where others enjoy their holidays, athletes will for the first time compete at the Tyrol Challenge Walchsee Kaiserwinkl in 2010: in the picturesque Kaiserwinkl region in the Tyrol. With the slogan “A Dreamlike Day in the Tyrol” the first competition of the Challenge Series on Austrian soil takes place. Picturesque Routes Offering Breath-Taking Views The 1.9km-long swimming course is covered in Lake Walchsee in the foothills of mighty Kaisergebirge Mountain Range. 25m-deep Lake Walchsee with a water temperature of 20°C – 24°C and drinking water quality offers perfect conditions for a fast swim time. The cycling course leads past Kössen and through wild-romantic Pillerseetal valley to the village of Hochfilzen, which has already made itself a name with biathlon competitions. Then the well-developed and versatile road leads downhill to St. Johann. The route leads across Huberhöhe Hill to Schwendt and back to the starting point at Lake Walchsee. Altogether the 90km-long loop covers 800m of altitude difference. The slightly hilly 3-loop running course leads around the lake along the promenade, past farm houses and in-between fields and meadows. Again and again picturesque views of the Kaiser Massif and Lake Walchsee can be enjoyed. The date for the Kaufhaus Tyrol Challenge Walchsee Kaiserwinkl was deliberately set on September 5. One the one hand this date allows for plenty of training time during the warmer season, on the other hand many athletes take this competition as an opportunity to test their fitness for the long-distance races in fall time, e.g. the Challenge in Barcelona. The venue is perfectly located traffic-wise Besides its charm, the area around Lake Walchsee has another big advantage. Especially German participants can get there without paying toll fee on A93 autobahn from Rosenheim to Kufstein and a short stretch on the federal road. Transport connections are also excellent for participants arriving by plane. The airports of Munich, Salzburg and Innsbruck are just a 1-hour car ride from there. If the Challenge Family alone won’t do, you can of course bring your own family. Hotels and guesthouses of the area are really children-friendly and the young and old can enjoy plenty of other leisure time activities. We would be happy to welcome as many members of the big Challenge family as possible and already now give you a warm welcome to the Tyrol.
