Costa Barcelona-Maresme will welcome the first Challenge triathlon in the Iberian Peninsula.

Probably one of the fastest in the world

For the first time, the Challenge Series arrives in the Mediterranean. Barcelona and, specifically, el Maresme has been the place chosen to hold the celebration of the two Challenge events of the year.

The organization facilitates the triathletes the possibility to initiate and close the triathlon season with two international events, “the Half Challenge”, which will take place on 16th May, and “the Challenge Costa Barcelona Maresme”, which will be celebrated on 3th October.

The technical specifications of both competitions allow the triathletes to enjoy one of the fastest routes on an international level. The swimming circuit, which will be located at Calella beach, as well as the cycling circuit, which involves 15 municipalities of el Maresme and the running route will be performed at sea level.

The fellow traveller for triathletes

The Maresme area is ideal for family holidays as well as to enjoy the triathlon practice, since ideal temperature prevails all throughout the year, typical from the Mediterranean climate. Participants in “the Half” and “the Challenge” will have as a good ally, the good weather, which prevails in this paradisiacal place.

The dates organized for both events will allow the participants to be amazed by the extraordinary weather conditions, more typically found in summer time, although always softened by the sea proximity.

El Maresme region

The two Challenge sports events will have their start located in the tourist capital city of la Costa del Maresme, Calella. This town has a beach offer of more than three kilometers, a variety of natural areas and infinity of emblematic places.

The Maresme region has the proximity of two international airports, Barcelona and Girona, which will facilitate all communication networks. In the same way, its first class gastronomical culture, result of the elaboration of autochthonous products, combined with the sun and beach tourism and the richness of its architectonical and heritages monuments shape an idyllic landscape of incomparable beauty.

Also, the proximity to Barcelona, only 30 minutes away from Calella, will allow the triathletes and their companions to enjoy shopping and the cultural tourism in the Modernism cradle.
